First year Interns complete 50 hours of training, pass an examination, and then contribute at least 50 hours of volunteer service to AgriLife sponsored projects in Bowie County within one year. Once an Intern becomes a Certified Master Gardener, they must earn at least 6 hours of continuing education and volunteer at least 12 hours of service annually to be eligible to re-certify.

Intern candidates must complete an online volunteer introduction course and pass a criminal background check which requires a $12 additional fee.
