In 2002, the WM New Boston Landfill Neighborhood Recommendation Committee, led by Sylvia Williams, announced the creation of a Recognition Grant program for non-profit groups in the New Boston area. Over the years, many deserving organizations have been the recipients of these funds. Ten Award Winners were chosen for their efforts in 2023 and were honored the evening of February 9th at the New Boston Community Center.

There were many worthy projects submitted to the Committee for consideration. These ten projects were chosen because of their amazingly strong focus towards environmental enhancement for the local community while also benefiting the citizens of the community. The winners are: The West Bowie County Rotary Club Clean Up Project and Adopt a Highway program; the United Fund of New Boston Projects raising funds for Community Kitchen, NB Vol FD, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, New Boston Library, and the Red Cross; Runnin’ WJ Therapeutic Riding Center for Special Needs Children’s Programs; Nick’s Mission Back Pack Program which provides food over the weekend for many children; Pulaski Cemetery Association beautification program; Magnolia Cemetery Association beautification program; the Telford Prison Ministries program serving the families of inmates; New Boston Education Foundation to enhance and improve educational opportunities for students and staff; Community Kitchen providing and delivering cooked meals to community members in need; and Bowie County Soil and Water Conservation District’s FFA Field Day for local FFA and 4H groups.

These groups all used local volunteers to assist in their project getting the community involved in their clean up projects. They will use the grant money to further benefit the New Boston Community. We applaud their awesome efforts.
