To Patricia Walker, winning the title of 2024 Region 8 Assistant Principal of the Year is a way for her to put the spotlight on the excellence of her teaching staff.
“This is so not just about me … it’s about our team,” Walker said. “I feel like education is under fire often times. And I want to take this as an opportunity to spread more positive about education. For people who don’t know, those frontline workers as teachers and paraprofessionals work absolutely hard every day for every kid they see. So if I’m supposed to use the opportunity to shine a spotlight on them, that’s what I want to do … “I’ve had a mission to serve like He did, so serving is just a passion of mine. And I think, now in a leadership position, I want to grow more people to be better than me. I want to leave it better than I found it and certainly grow more people to come in behind me.”
Walker is the associate principal at New Boston Elementary campus which houses Oakview Primary and Crestview Elementary schools.
