It has come to my attention that the Voters of Bowie County have been misinformed about Precinct Chair duties.
My opponents answer to the questionnaire published by the Bowie County Citizens Tribune, in the February 14th issue, contained errors which I feel warrant a response. Adam Huggins stated, “the Precinct Chair is a representative to the County Executive Committee (CEC) which decides, among other things, what system will be used for voting in the primary and run-off elections.” He also stated, “this decision also has an influence on which of the many systems available the county chooses to use in general elections.” BOTH OF THESE STATEMENTS ARE FALSE! The Bowie County Executive Committee consists of all elected Precinct Chairs and the elected County Chairman. I am your current, elected, Republican, Precinct 19 Chair. I can emphatically and accurately state that neither I nor the CEC make any decision regarding the voting equipment or system we use for our elections in Bowie County.
According to the Bowie County Elections Administrator, the members of the Bowie County Commissioners Court, upon his recommendation, approved the type and funding for Bowie County’s election equipment. Over two million dollars have been spent over the last four and a half years to upgrade and qualify Bowie County for Countywide Voting. This equipment is secure, and the paper ballots ensure a recount can be held should it be required. Ballot data is never transmitted electronically which protects the integrity of the election process.
