DeKalb FFA has had a significant amount of success thus far in the 2023-2024 school year. Over the past year Thomas Baird served as the Daingerfield District President. During the Daingerfield District Convention in New Boston on January 29th, 2024 Thomas was elected to serve as an Area Officer for the 2024-2025 school year. Thomas will give another speech at the Area Convention in Carthage on February 26th to determine his position on the Area 6 officer team. Isaiah Hamilton was elected to serve as the Daingerfield District Reporter for the 20242025 school year. During the candidate selection process, both students underwent a test, interview and gave a speech on stage. They will begin their year of service this summer by attending multiple conferences, conventions, and trainings.
The DeKalb FFA Tractor tech teams have also had much success this school year. Mr. Neal McMurry and Tad Martin have travelled many miles with these individuals - Landon Martin, Conner Davis, Luke Allen, Judson Payne, Max Mooneyhan, Jake Payne, Kyndra Andrews, and Joey Butcher. Both teams travelled to contests across the state and brought home multiple banners, plaques and prizes. During the Area contest on January 26th, Conner Davis placed 1st, Luke Allen 2nd, Landon Martin 3rd and overall 1st place as a team. These 3 students, along with Judson Payne who will serve as an alternate, have advanced to State and will compete on March 3rd at the Houston Livestock Show.
The FFA is a student-led organization that works to prepare you for the future and teaches how to develop into responsible, hard-working, dedicated young adults. Good leadership is the foundation of a great FFA program. I don’t think many people realize how much work goes into being a chapter officer unless you’ve been one yourself. We truly appreciate and thank you for being a part of this year’s Chapter Officer Team. DeKalb FFA will host a variety of annual events this year. By supporting these events, you are helping to shape the next generation of students. Through these fundraising events, we are able to supply meal money to students and buy supplies necessary for our success. There are currently over 3,000 plants in the greenhouse including vegetables, begonias, coleus, petunias, and hens and chicks to name a few. The 2nd Annual Greenhouse Sale is set for April 12th, 2024. Dozens of projects are being built for the auction which is set for May 4th, 2024! The annual banquet recognizing student success and election of the next year officer team will be held on May 10th, 2024.
