Primary leaves incumbent VanDeaver in runoff with Spencer for House District 1 seat

In a campaign fraught with negative attacks, the top two Republican candidates will be facing a runoff for the Texas House of Representatives District 1 seat.

Rep. Gary VanDeaver and Chris Spencer will face each other again in a May run off election after neither candidate secured a 50% majority win in the March 5 primary.

“I’m excited. When you’ve endured six weeks of the kind of fire I’ve endured and the kind of hate and attacks and still come out winning the election, just not winning it by 50%, I consider that a victory. And I look forward to continuing to get our message out over the next three months and look forward to the run off,” VanDeaver said.
