New Boston City Council makes plans for ARPA funds

The City of New Boston is getting the ball rolling on spending the $1.5 million received from ARPA during the pandemic.

Last Tuesday night in their regular meeting, the New Boston City Council approved the purchase of a SCADA system for the city’s water department. SCADA stands for “supervisory control and data acquisition.” The system is basically a distributed computer system that is used by operations and management for process monitoring and automation, thus eliminating the need for service calls and manpower. The initial investment by the city will be approximately $194k.

Council members also unanimously approved the low bid for installation of an 8 foot chain link fence around the maintenance barn located on Elm Street. There have been issues with theft and vandalism at this location, and an eight foot security fence will deter any future activity of this nature. The low bid was submitted by Richardson Fence in Texarkana, and work is expected to begin immediately.
