Four day school weeks start off with postive outcomes

The first semester of the 2022-2023 school year has come to an end, a semester that saw many changes for several local schools. The post-pandemic four-day week was introduced, discussed, voted on, and implemented at many school districts. After the first semester of four-day week has passed, local superintendents Chris Galloway PhD, Brian Bobbitt, and Stacey Starrett reported on the changes felt by the districts they represent.

“It is still too early to understand the full impact of the 4-day school week, but at the midpoint of the year, we have seen some positive outcomes,” said DeKalb ISD Superintendent Chris Galloway, PhD. “Teachers report that they feel better prepared and an improvement in their work/life balance.”

“Students have shared that they feel less stressed and are more focused in the classroom,” said Galloway. “Our student enrollment increased by more than 60 students and we filled all of our open teaching positions.”
