De Kalb native Stephanie Motes was eager to begin her nursing career — but she first needed to attend an accredited nursing program. To do that, and to get hands-on training with Texas’ nursing practices — Motes enrolled in a twoyear program at Texarkana College.
Born in Texarkana, Texas, Motes was surrounded by her family and a good life. By 17, she graduated from De Kalb High School with dual-credit college hours to put toward her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
“I have dreamed of being a nurse my whole life,” said Motes. “Since I was a little girl, I took care of my baby dolls by putting IVs in them and acting like they were in the nursery. I wanted a job where I could go out and make a difference and still enjoy what I do.”
