In his final year with the Avery High School one act play, Brent Jackson directed his cast to a third place finish at the state competition last week.

AHS took their play, “The Voices of the Prairie,” to the University Interscholastic League state competition in Austin on May 13 where they competed as one of eight advancing 1-A regional winners from Texas. They earned a third place finish. “I don’t think it’s quite sank in just yet … But it’s bittersweet and the realization of something that you’ve worked so hard to achieve and then getting it and it being everything that you had hoped it would be,” Jackson said. “I’ve got ten seniors who have been with me for so long and to see them achieve this in their final year … and to be able to go out myself having reached their goal but also my personal goal, that makes it all the more rewarding.”

Jackson reprised the program in 2015 when he became the school counselor. He had been part of the theater program as a student of AHS until graduation in 1996.
