The Dogwood Garden Club is honored to name The First Baptist Church as the Yard of the Month for May. At the time of this presentation much of the beds are ablaze with colors along the south entrance of the church. The traffic island is full of brilliant red Knock-Out Roses. At the west end of the island are several Crepe Myrtle Shrubs.
All along the south and east sides of the building are boxwood, yaupon, Hawthorne and ‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum shrubs, more red knock-out roses, red drift roses interspersed with holly trees for height. On both sides of the entrance are snapdragons, daylilies, zinnias and irises, To the left are numerous yellow Lantana shrubs, as well as two Scarlet Rose Mallow plants (locally known as Texas Star hibiscus). On either side of the entrance are welcoming planters filled with colorful zinnias and green sweet potato vine.
The north entrance cannot be ignored. In November 2023, the club presented an oak tree to honor former New Boston Mayor Johnny Branson, in observance of Texas Arbor Day. Also, church groundskeeper Jason Milton and his father, Fred Milton, offered two red maple trees to honor Branson. Planting was done by Jason and Fred.
