Steve Anthony Greer March 28, 1958-May 26, 2024 Steve Anthony Greer of DeKalb, Texas, died of natural causes on May 26, 2024. He was born in Midland County, Texas, to Billy D. Greer and Lois Marie Salinas Greer on March 28, 1958. Lois died a few days after giving birth to him, leaving behind three young children who were raised by their grandparents, Clyde and Martha Salinas of Madisonville.

Steve is survived by a brother Richard Greer (Rose) of Bryan, Texas a sister, Gay Collard (Jimmy), of Madisonville, Texas a half-sister, Karen Greer, cousins Jim Salinas, Martha Schoemaker, Pam Malicoat, Jeanie Salinas, and Jerry Landreth, and an aunt, Winona Salinas.

As a child, Steve played in the woods, climbed trees, raised a few animals, and was dearly loved by his family. When he got older, he worked odd jobs and as a carpenter until his battle with severe mental illness made that impossible. He lived with his grandmother until she died when he was in his early thirties. For the next thirty years, he lived mostly on the streets. Finding it difficult to trust others, he resisted most offers of family help. His cousin, Jerry, and Jerry’s wife, Venette, were finally able to get him into housing and on public assistance. Special thanks go to them for leaving no stone unturned in their quest to help Steve live a safer, more comfortable life. Through their efforts, Steve lived his final years in his own home, looked after by them and many in the town of DeKalb. The family is indebted to their kindness. A private family service will be at a later date in Madisonville, Tx In honor of Steve’s life, please reach out to those who may be struggling. We must break the stigma that surrounds mental health treatment. Steve is finally at peace.
