I spent a couple of hours chatting with a man, a friend of a friend, who had just been released from prison. His journey has been a tough one, marked by many crimes and 25 years of drug use. But his surrender and walk with Christ began when ministers shared the gospel with him while serving time in a Texas prison. He received a small paperback Bible and read it from cover to cover.
He showed me the Bible; its once dark blue cover was now worn, almost paper-thin from use, with notes scribbled on nearly every page.
This Bible, a symbol of his redemption, was a powerful testament to how deeply the Word of God had penetrated his heart. He shared how a series of lies had trapped him long before his surrender to Christ inside prison.
