Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV)

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV)

I want to dedicate this devotion to my mom & mother-in-law because this verse is their favorite scripture. Proverbs 3:5-6 are some of the most powerful and popular scriptures in the Bible. These life altering verses can be broken into four parts: Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. When you see the word heart in scripture it is referring to two different parts of your being, your soul and your spirit. We understand that the Holy Spirit is the spirit that dwells within us, but our soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions. When our spirit rules over our soul, then our mind and emotions are properly aligned.

The reason it says, “Lean not unto your own understanding” is because many of us naturally overthink things or try to do what we think is right. As you are walking toward your God-given destiny, you will step into things that you don’t understand. But remember, God knows exactly where you are and will get you where you need to go. When we don’t understand, we have the opportunity to allow God to truly father us. Times of uncertainty will teach you to lean into Father God and trust Him instead of yourself. This is why stepping out into the unknown is so exciting and challenging. When we acknowledge God in all of our ways, in every single aspect of our life and do not allow the enemy any foothold, things will always work out. As we acknowledge God in every area, we become closer to our destiny in God. The promise of these scriptures is that God will direct our path. When we set our heart, mind and gaze is upon Him, God will do what we could not do on our own or in our own understanding. As we put all our trust in Him, God will make a way where there is no way. As children of great destiny, so many times we look at our abilities, talents and gifts and forget that God gave them to us. Never try to figure things out from a natural mindset. Instead trust and lean upon God for everything. Do not lean towards earthly but towards Godly wisdom. Whichever way you lean is the way your path will be directed. The Lord wants to direct our path but we must lean into Him and allow Him to lead us. As we daily lean into Him, God will lead us into destiny, because our destiny is only found in God.
