In split decisions, the court voted to approve measures which will reallocate road and bridge funds for the commissioners precincts, as well as, the county judge to enter into a retainer agreement for future redistricting of Bowie County justice of the peace precincts.

Tempers flared at Monday morning’s meeting of the Bowie County Commissioners Court. In split decisions, the court voted to approve measures which will reallocate road and bridge funds for the commissioners precincts, as well as, the county judge to enter into a retainer agreement for future redistricting of Bowie County justice of the peace precincts.

Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell was the deciding vote with Sammy Stone and Tom Whitten, commissioners for precinct 1 and 2 respectively, casting the dissenting votes.

The approval of the road and bridge fund reallocation means precincts 3 and 4 will see a ten percent increase to 35 percent of the fund in their 2024-2025 budgets in October. Precincts 1 and 2 will see a ten percent cut.
