The new county budget and tax rate passed in a split decision after an eleventh hour amendment Monday morning.
The Bowie County Commissioners Court held a special session Monday morning to discuss and vote on the adoption of the proposed 2024-2025 budget and tax rates for the county.
During discussion of the budget, Mike Carter, commissioner precinct 4, asked the budget to be amended before the vote to adjust the salary of Tom Whitten’s precinct 2 employees an additional three percent Whitten had requested. Carter requested the increase for precinct 2 come from his own budget.
