The New Boston Lions have been stuck in the middle the last couple of seasons, but don’t be surprised if you see them jump up a spot or two by November.
The Lions were 6-6 a year ago and made a good showing in the postseason. With a host of upperclassman talent and experience on the field for 2024, despite being in a much stronger district, these Lions will contend for a title. Preseason prognosticators see them finishing fourth in the district. But this is high school football, and anything can happen. District 10-3A Div. 2 is a strong one for sure with state-ranked Daingerfield seen by most as the frontrunner, but Hooks, DeKalb and the Lions may have something to say about that.
For the Lions to roar to the top over teams like the Hornets, Tigers and Bears, it will be the seniors that have to step up and get them there. One place where that senior leadership is very needed is on the defensive side of the ball.
