Two of the most prolific coaches in the State of Texas were inducted into the DeKalb Hall of Fame on Friday night, and no amount of wind or rain could wash away the permanent marks that each of them have made on the young people of DeKalb, and Bowie County.
Melissa Motes and Michael Hill were the 2024 recipients of the honor.
Melissa Dixon Motes became the head coach of the DeKalb Lady Bears basketball team midway through the 1992-93 season, at the young age of 22. At that time, the Lady Bears were in the final stages of a 62 game losing streak. The very next season, they won 16 games and, within two years, finished second in the district and competed in the 14AAA playoffs.
