Any team in any sport has to have a team leader. A team needs someone they can look to for direction and inspiration. A high school football team needs a field general. This year, the DeKalb Bears have found all of those qualities in their senior quarterback Jaylen White.
Jaylen is a multi-sport athlete that excels just as much in baseball as he does on the gridiron for the DeKalb Bears. So far in 2024, his stats have been impressive.
In the season opener against Mineola, the senior QB passed for 224 yards and ran for another 60 and scored three touchdowns to lead the Bears to a 48-20 win. The following week, White rushed for 102 yards and three touch¬downs on 14 carries and was also 14 of 25 for 166 yards passing and a touch¬down through the air. Even in the team’s loss to 3A Div. 1 Jefferson, Jaylen was impressive with a pair of touchdowns on the ground and another on a pass to wideout Walker Matteson.
