Some teachers go to school each morning to go to their job. For others, it is more akin to a calling. Some people, like Avery ISD’s Christy Williams, were simply born for it.
Christy began her career as a teacher 16 years ago at Avery ISD. She is still at the district today, and there is little doubt that she bleeds maroon and white. And as a Secondary Special Education teacher for the district, she has made an undeniable impact on the lives of so many young people in the small Red River County town.
Inspired to do what she does by a love for reading, she has spent her 16 years in the classroom trying to pass on that love to the district’s students with special needs. She especially enjoyed her time with the Dyslexia Intervention program at Avery ISD where she enjoyed helping those students learn to read. It was while she was working with dyslexic students that she experienced one of her favorite memories as a teacher.
