There are as many paths to teaching as there are teachers. Luckily for students at New Boston High School, Amanda Sipes made a last-minute detour on her path to the courtroom and landed exactly where she was meant to the classroom.

Originally obtaining a degree in Criminal Justice, Amanda decided to try to tackle issues before they arose. Though she began her education with the intent of becoming a parole officer to “make a difference by helping people change their lives for the better after making mistakes,” she “eventually decided that I could better serve this purpose by impacting teens before they find themselves in such a situation.”

Amanda recently began her third year of her teaching journey. She lists Mr. Lee Sturgeon as an early influence, citing that he “truly cared about his students’ success while actually making school fun.” She also credits her parents, Susan and Wesley Owen, as the most influential people in her life: “Their dedication to raising myself and my siblings John, Kim and Rachel, to know the Lord first and foremost, created roots that I have found my way back to.”
