There is a lot to be said about the value of community. Whether it be a resounding response to a local fundraiser, a meal chain for a family in need, or a local church making beds for kids, the word “community” around here hits just a little harder.
I am always proud of our community here. In the 28 years that I have called this area my home, there have been hundreds, maybe thousands, of reasons for me to be proud that my wife and I got our kids out of Dallas when they were little.
In the last few weeks, there have been many reasons. Even though I am a die-hard Bears fan, I love driving around New Boston and seeing the businesses decked out in maroon and gold for rivalry week. (This year’s game is going to a barn burner I think.) I also love the way the fans over in Hooks turned out and earned some cash from T-Mobile. The turnout for the inaugural Jessica Burgin 5k in DeKalb was a breath of fresh air. Maybe more than anything recently, the efforts of DeKalb First Baptist Church to do all they can to make sure kids have a bed to call their own make me so grateful that we live in a little piece of the world that still cares about their fellow man.
