The Bowie County Soil & Water Conservation District sponsored the 2024 Hay Expo on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the school cafeteria in Simms, Texas.
Brian Triplett, our Bowie County AgriLife Ext Agent, judged each of the 41 entries in the Expo. Plaques were awarded to the top three placings: 1st place was Kay Shelton with a total visual & chemical score of 192.6 and 26.3% crude protein; 2nd place was Ivan Pickering, with a total score of 186.6 and 24.3% crude protein; and 3rd place was Ivan Pickering, with a total score of 178.1 and crude protein of 22.6%.
Bowie County SWCD is a non-profit agency and without the support from our local community we would not be able to offer events such as this and other’s we put on throughout the year. We want to thank all who came out and participated in the Expo and a special thank you to all producers who entered a hay sample in the contest. A big thank you to all who worked to make this a great Expo.
