West Fraser New Boston celebrated the official ribbon cutting for the mill’s new state of the art solar farm last week. West Fraser officials, including New Boston Plant Manager Clay Garrett, were joined by members of the New Boston Chamber of Commerce, Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell, New Boston Mayor Ron Humphrey and Sharon Elkins from House District 1’s Representative Gary Van-Deaver’s office at the celebration.
The new solar farm was constructed at a cost of $8.1 million and the company sees it as an important source of green energy to support the increased production, supporting West Fraser’s sustainability commitments and demonstrating the company’s confidence in the strong future of the New Boston mill.
The New Boston mill solar farm is the first system of its kind to come online in the West Fraser family, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to growth in the region and highlighting its commitment to reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, with a goal to reduce overall emissions from energy used at its mills by approximately 46% by 2030.
