Residents of Hooks packed the council chambers to show their displeasure with the city’s police chief and a situation that resulted in the loss of the school district’s longtime resource officer at Monday’s regular meeting of the Hooks City Council.

“I’m here tonight to highlight a pattern … that the top security official of a community should not have,” Chris Harris said to the council. “We want to see one of two things. We want to see a resignation or we want to see the council to vote to remove the police chief. And if we can’t get either one, we will be back at the next meeting with a petition by your city ordinance with enough (signatures) to get this action done.”

Johnny Millwood is the police chief for the Hooks Police Department. He was hired in February to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former chief Ricky Woodard in January.
