Band members from New Boston and DeKalb high schools competed in the 2024-2025 University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Military Marching Band Competition at Baylor University’s McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas, Wednesday, October 30. The NBHS Lions Military Stride with Pride Band placed sixth and DHS Mighty Bear Band placed ninth in the preliminary rounds.

The drum majors are senior band members Sawyer Hobson and Spencer Bowers of NBHS and Thomas Beard of DHS.

Both bands began practicing their routines in late July before the start of the school year. The students dedicated several hours to daily practices during school hours and weekly after school practices. They performed during halftime of football games during the season and at open contests in preparation for UIL rankings.
