Texas A&M University- Texarkana and the Bowie County Master Gardeners will host a program titled “Getting Started with Backyard Chickens” on Monday, November 11th at 6:00 p.m. The program will be held in Room 326 of the University Center Building on the A&M-Texarkana campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Presented by Richard Mills, an expert in backyard poultry, this seminar will provide attendees with valuable insights into raising chickens at home. Participants will learn the essential steps to begin producing own eggs - from setting up a chicken coop to caring for and maintaining a healthy flock.
“Raising backyard chickens is not only a fun and rewarding hobby but also a growing trend for those wanting to be more sustainable,” said Dr. Jennifer Davis, Director of Community Engagement at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. “This session promises to be both informative and enjoyable, offering a hands-on introduction to the joys of fresh, homegrown eggs right in your backyard.” This event is part of the ongoing “Get into Gardening” monthly seminar series, offering hands-on guidance and practical information for gardening enthusiasts and beginners alike. The series is hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Texas Master Gardener Program, and Texas A&M University- Texarkana’s School of Professional Education and Community Engagement (PECE).
