The volunteers out at the Telford Unit in New Boston are hard at work again to provide some much-needed Christmas cheer for the inmates housed at the facility. Again this year, close to 2,000 men will receive a holiday gift filled with candy that has been donated from around the county, just in time for Christmas. The bags will contain individually wrapped candy of any kind, except gum.
Volunteers will come together on December 9,10 and 11 to fill the holiday themed bags up with candy, and then those bags will be distributed on December 15 .
New Boston’s Edna Walker has been a part of this Christmas project for 20 years now, and she says, “The majority of these men are completely forgotten, many are in the Hospice wing. Most don’t get visits, letters, or commissary. We always include a Christmas tract.”
