TheDeKalbBearspunched their ticket to Round Three of the Texas UIL State football playoffs on Friday night with a nail-biter overtime win over Troup, setting the stage for their contest this Friday against Woodville.
The Area round matchup with Troup was a slugfest from start to finish, with the two teams battling back and forth for every second of the game. The Bears took advantage of a pivotal interception late by Koby Spurgeon and got some big plays on both sides of the ball to stay in the game.
In the final seconds of regulation, the Bears scored to knot the game at 34-34 and came up a hair short on the bid for a two-point conversion and the win, sending the game into bonus time. After stopping the Tigers on their overtime possession, the Bears got their shot. Senior quarterback Jaylen White took the game into his own hands at that point and his offensive line paved the way for an overtime touchdown, and the win.
