Ronald Alvis Cloude, of Maud, TX, passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Mr. Cloude was born on May 18, 1940, to Orville and Ola Cloude in Spur, Texas. Ronnie graduated from Spur High School in 1958, and then Hardin Simmons University in 1962 with a BBA in Accounting and an ROTC commission. After completing two years of higher education, Ronnie then joined the Army in 1964 as a lieutenant. In 1966, Mr.
Cloude was recruited by Red River Army Depot as a civilian computer programmer.
Over the years, Ronnie and his coworkers at the depot, created and improved a number of essential computer systems for the Army, which often required temporary duty on other bases, in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Cloude worked 35 years as a programmer at Red River Army Depot until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Cloude was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Boston, TX.
Mr. Cloude enjoyed working in his yard, driving his antique cars, and vacationing with his wife and family to numerous destinations, including stays in Florida, Colorado, California, Wyoming, Mexico, and Alaska. Ronnie was especially fond of his children and grandchildren. He was sure to be there rooting for his kids, whether it be a football game, band performance, birthday, or graduation. Mr. Cloude spent treasured time as a leader of Boy Scout Troop 36 in New Boston, TX. He and his friend Pat Tohill, shared their love of adventure by taking the scouts on many excursions, including Philmont Ranch in New Mexico, Camp Pioneer in Mena, floating the White River in Colorado, a trip aboard an aircraft carrier during exercises in the Gulf of Mexico, and even a cultural trip to Mexico City.
Mr. Cloude is preceded in death by his parents, Ola and Orville Cloude, and four brothers, Orville Jr, Jack, Gary, and Randy.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Cloude of Maud, TX, his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Becky Cloude of Texarkana, AR, his daughter, Deborah Woodruff of Quitman, TX, three granddaughters and one son-in-law, Cara and Corey Atkinson of Maud, TX, Emily Woodruff of Oklahoma City, OK, and Elise Woodruff of Auburn, AL, three great grandchildren, Jaxon Atkinson, Theo Atkinson, and Ada Atkinson of Maud, TX, and a number of other family members.
Funeral service will take place 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 2nd in the Bates-Rolf Funeral Home chapel in New Boston. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to service, with burial to follow at Center Ridge Cemetery in Maud, TX, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the youth program at First Baptist Church of Maud, TX.
