Several surrounding schools received a superior rating in the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for the 2023-2024 school year.
FIRST is a rating system by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) designed to ensure public schools in Texas “are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve these practices,” according to the TEA website.
New Boston, De Kalb, Hooks, Leary, Malta, Simms, Redwater, Hubbard, Red Lick, Texarkana and Avery independent school districts as well as Pewitt Consolidated School District were all given an A rating, or superior.
