Appraisal district warns of new scams

Scamming has become an epidemic, not only in the United States, but worldwide. The Federal Trade Commission reports that an estimated $10 billion was lost to scammers in the U.S. in 2023, the highest ever in a single year. The FTC also reports that there were 2.6 million individual fraud reports in 2023. Of those reports from 2023, 358,00 were perpetrated through email scams. Phone scams accounted for an average of $1,480 per victim, and above that were social media scams which accounted for a total of $1.4 billion dollars in losses.
