Two local teams claimed district championships Friday night as the Hooks Lady Hornets stung the Redwater Lady Dragons by a final score of 72-8 in a game that saw Hooks leading 43-0 at the halftime break.
The win over Redwater was their tenth straight W going all the way back to a non-district game in December and put their season record at 28-5. The Lady Hornets are unbeaten in district action with dominant play including a 66-20 win over New Boston last Tuesday and a 64-37 win over Atlanta the week before. Their 11-0 district mark after Friday night’s win earned the Lady Hornets a district championship.
The Lady Hornets had moved up to #11 in the state last week according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll. The district had Hooks as the top seed in girl’s basketball followed in order by Liberty Eyla, DeKalb and Atlanta following last week’s action.
