“…out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope…” Those are words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech that inspired a California group’s annual Stone of Hope awards presentation. This year, those assembled for the awards presentations were treated to words of wisdom all the way from Northeast Texas and one of its most revered educators and leaders, Mr. James Germany.
The awards are an honor given annually to 12 individuals in Imperial County, California who embody the principles and philosophies of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The award recognizes Imperial Valley citizens who “hew out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope” by making huge impacts on the community where they live.
Mr. Germany told the Tribune that it was by the grace of God and a remarkable turn of events that he was given the privilege of being the keynote speaker for the awards.
