A new alert system is replacing the area’s old phone notification system for emergencies.
Hyper-Reach is the area’s new mass alert system to notify registered users about emergencies, critical events and urgent situations, including weather, missing persons and criminal activity. It is a free service offered by the Texarkana 911 Dispatch Center.
It replaced the CodeRed Alert system previously used in the region.
Previous users of the CodeRed system will still need to register for the new alerts.
Emergency officials say the new system will provide residents with up to the minute accurate alerts and information.
Weather-related notices will be issued by the National Weather Service. Other notifications will come from the dispatch center at the request of law enforcement.
Hyper-Reach allows users to be notified by cell phone, landline, telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) and/or email.
Users can choose whether they wish to receive community and weather alerts by turning the alerts on or off at signup.
Bowie County residents can sign up by calling or texting “alerts” to 430-2005888.
