Earn While You Learn: 6-Week Commercial Drivers License Training Program Provides Stipend While Learning High-Demand Skills

The City of Texarkana and Texarkana College have partnered to offer a transformative 6-week job training program designed to equip residents with valuable skills to earn a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and certifications sought after by many employers. This initiative provides funding for the cost of the program along with the opportunity to earn a stipend for hours spent in training.
The City of Texarkana and Texarkana College have partnered to offer a transformative 6-week job training program designed to equip residents with valuable skills to earn a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and certifications sought after by many employers. This initiative provides funding for the cost of the program along with the opportunity to earn a stipend for hours spent in training.

Participants can look forward to several specialized training sessions, including 40 hours of HazWOPER training to handle hazardous materials, Class A CDL training with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement for obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License, forklift operation certification, and CPR/ First Aid training along with Bloodborne Pathogens OSHA 10 preparation. Additionally, trainees who meet certain requirements can earn $14 per hour while they train, providing financial support during the learning process.

The program is open to residents of Bowie, Cass, and Red River counties in Texas, and Miller and Little River counties in Arkansas. Applicants must be unemployed or underemployed, at least 18 years old, and possess a valid Arkansas or Texas Driver’s License. Those accepted into the program will need to obtain a CDL permit, which involves passing a four-part written test.
