The Hooks Lady Hornets advanced to the next round of the softball state playoff brackets with a two-game sweep last week of the Lady Tonkawas in Winnsboro.
Game One of the series on Thursday was down to the wire as the Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the 1st inning but then gave up six runs in the 4th and 5th to trail 6-5 going into the 6th inning.
The ladies from Hooks scored three of their own to come back to lead 8-6 after the bottom of the 6th and then held on for dear life in the final frame to earn the 8-7 win and lead the series 1-0 after Thursday.
