A man wanted in connection with the July 5, 2024 double homicide at a New Boston housing complex was captured near Dallas, Texas.
Rondarius “Dae Dae” Evans, 21, was arrested on April 22 at a Mesquite, Texas, apartment complex, said New Boston Police Department (NBPD) Sgt. Rick Boone.
According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), special agents working with the Special Response Team (SRT), Mesquite Police Department, City of Dallas Fire Marshal’s Office and the Dallas County Marshal’s Office executed a warrant that led to Evans’ arrest.
Evans was transported to Bi-State Jail on April 30. His bond has been set at $1 million.
Evans was listed as a Texas Ten Most Wanted fugitive in the shooting deaths of Princeton Washington and Nicholas Webster, both 19. Two capital murder war-rants were issued by NBPD, authorities said.
The two teens were found with gunshot wounds outside the Dogwood Plaza Apartments in the 300 block of North Lindsey Street. Washington died at the scene. Webster was taken to a Texarkana hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. He died 12 days later while in the intensive care unit.
Evans also had a warrant from Titus County for failure to appear before a judge from a prior drug-related offense and deadly conduct.
A $5,000 reward had been issued for Evans arrest, however DPS said the arrest did not come from a CrimeStoppers tip and no reward was paid.
Malaki Beckham, 20, was also charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with the shooting deaths.
Beckham is still being held at Bi-State on a $2 million bond.
Authorities said Beckham allegedly fired the fatal shots before fleeing the scene in the victims’ car. He was arrested three days later in Red River County.
Evans initially surrendered to police at the scene but was released due to lack of evidence. He fled Bowie County and was later arrested in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on an unrelated domestic charge. He was released from custody before NBPD could secure a warrant for his extradition.
A motive for the shooting has not been released and authorities have not disclosed the relationship between the victims and the alleged assailants.
