Several area schools had students competing in the 1995 Texas State Track & Field Meet held in Austin last Friday and Saturday. Hook’s Christal Traylor brought home the only gold medal for local athletes when she won the girl’s 800 meter race. Hooks also brought home two bronze medals, one for Jeremiah Trotter in discus and Danyell Wyse in the boy’s 200 meter. New Boston’s Shanekia Brewer brought home the bronze medal for girl’s shot put. DeKalb’s Mizi Rankin placed fourth in the girl’s 400 meter hurdles, and Maud’s Gene Conkleton finished sixth in the boy’s 800 meter race.
