To the Editor: Another year, another administration, but apparently the same old same old. We have a new City Administrator, but it may be that we still have the previous one on board! Do you as citizens of New Boston know that another tax increase has been proposed? Probably not since it was at a meeting helf on a Monday at 10:30 am, the newspaper was not in attendance and the meeting to propose said tax increase lasted with the invocation and pledge of allegiance exactly 3 minutes! I know because I was there and not much discussion was had. Why do we need another tax increase? Have we at any point looked at a tightening of our belt to include the fuel we pay for city employees to drive the city vehicles to and from Dalby Springs, to and from Hooks, to and from Simms and every place in between to include grocery stores and church ? How about looking at our staffing in the city? Not to mention services we pay for that we are not getting our money’s worth, i.e., mowing contract for Tapp Park.
Another couple of questions I and others have are now that the concession stand at the ball fields has been torn down what happened to all the equipment that was in there to include: snow cone machine, popcorn machine, refrigerator, hot dog machine, etc. Is it stored someplace to be used again or to be maybe sold to recoup some money? Are we currently paying for 2 City Administrators? Is it true that we as taxpayers might be paying for a trip for the supposed former administrator to go to a meeting in Austin so they might say goodbye to folks? What of the rumors of nepotism i nthe city workforce? True or not? Is city workforce overstaffed? Will anyone that sits in those 6 or 7 chairs at the front of the coucil chambers be willing to stand up and answer these questions? Appears to me before we ask for taxpayers to pony up more tax money, we should look at the inside of our house and find ways to cut some fat! Wake up folks and get involved as new day, old day, same day, it seems the same! The folks elected and hired need to do what they should be doing to be stewards of our tax money instead of more taxing and spending. Don’t treat us like mushrooms-keeping us in the dark and feeding us you know what!
I know I may just be like the man fighting windmills, but what I also know is that I am a concerned citizen and taxpayer here in New Boston and tired of being put off and taken advantage of and hearing from our elected council how we are going to get change, just be patient, nut nothing seems to happen to show a change!
