Anthony Booth, a fourth grader at DeKalb Elementary, recently found a red balloon at the DeKalb City Park. The balloon with the name of 2nd grader Ashley Chaney from Alba-Golden Elementary had traveled from Alba, TX, which is located about 20 miles south of Sulphur Springs.

Hard work and the desire to create some community pride paid off for Redwater’s Peer Leadership and Assistance (PALs) class members. The PALs recently took first place at the International Future Problem Solving in Lexington, KY, an event involving hundreds of schools across the world. The group took first in the senior civic/cultural division of the event with their project “Redwater: History in the Baking.” Members were Kiron Browning, Brian Barnhart, Barndi Bonner, Kristin Corley, Whitney Black, Casey Merritt, and Kristi Burns, and their sponsor was Kim Beechem.

The DeKalb All Stars battled their way to a tournament championship, overcoming a three hour semi-final that included a California tiebreaker, and a championship game that didn’t finish until after 3 a.m.
