NFL standouts Trotter and Brown come home where it all began
The Hooks Community Development Committee and The Hooks High School Class of 1995 held a special ceremony this past Saturday to honor two of its own, former NFL players Jeremiah Trotter and Wilbert Brown.
The two had streets named after them at a corner adjacent to Hornets Stadium where Avenue East and 5th Street come together. The two streets are now named Trotter Way and Brown Boulevard.
Wilbert Brown left the Hornets and went on to play college football for the Houston Cougars. He went from there to a career in the NFL where he was a lineman for the San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins.
Jeremiah Trotter played college football at Stephen F. Austin and then followed his career as a Lumberjack with 11 seasons in the NFL, four of which he was named to the Pro Bowl. Trotter played eight seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles who drafted him in the third round. He was later inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame.
David Briggs was one of those who helped organize Saturday’s event. He said, “My hope and my prayer is that, among other things, every student-athlete that walks from that school to that field house sees these signs and understands that this is not just something that can happen in Hooks, Texas, but this is something that does happen.I’ve known these guys for 43 years… this is a great day for us.”

Former NFL lineman Wilbert Brown speaks to the crowd gathered Saturday at the new intersection in Hooks now known as the corner of Trotter Way and Brown Boulevard.
