Thirty Years Ago - 1995

July 30, 1995

Thirteen athletes from the DeKalb, Texas area attended the Lady Tiger Basketball Camp held recently on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The camp was under the direction of Ouachita head women’s basketball coach Garry Crowder and provided instruction in all elements of the sport. Participating in the week-long camp were Marci Wilson, Maria Starling, Ashley Walters, Jill Clack, Ashley Elkins, Holly Prather, Jamel McGee, Amber Blakenly, Christa McMichael, Tye Newkirk, Laura Foster, Whitney Ratcliff, Allison White, Jessica Eubanks, Melissa Barrett, Kelli Mitchell, and Sarah Freeman.

Twenty Years Ago - 2005

The local leaders of the BRAC battle are being honored this year as joint Grand Marshals of the 2005 Pioneer Days Parade. Jerry Sparks, Horace Shipp, and James Carlow will lead the parade, set for Saturday, August 20th.

Ten Years Ago - 2015

District 1 State Representative Gary VanDeaver cut the ribbon for the grand opening of his new office at the Bowie County Courthouse on Monday. VanDeaver was joined by members of the New Boston Chamber of Commerce, county commissioners, city officials, and the young ladies of the Miss New Boston court. VanDeaver’s House District 1 contains Bowie, Franklin, Lamar, and Red River counties.

Five Years Ago - 2020

The Marine Corps League , Det 1149, works diligently to raise funds to help other veterans in the area, through donations from raffle tickets and from fairs and gun shows. They also preside over military funeral honors, and the placement of Veteran Administration gravestones at local cemeteries, at no cost to the family of the veteran.
