The New Boston High School varsity cheerleading team received high praise at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Summer Camp at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas in July.
The NBHS squad took first in the band chant competition, two superior ratings, the Technical Excellence Award and the Herkie Team Award. They were also rewarded with the camp’s spirit stick for exceptional spirit and teamwork.
“They’re looking really good. This team has a lot of potential,” said DeAndra Beauvais, NBHS cheer coach. “They are a young group. At least half of them are freshmen. Most of them have never done this style of cheerleading before but they’re up for the challenge.”
