Tax free weekend in Texas is this weekend

Tax free weekend in Texas is this weekend

Back to school shoppers can keep a little more money in their wallets thanks to taxfree weekend.

In Texas, the sales tax holiday is August 8 through 10 for qualifying purchases.

A list of qualifying items can be found on the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website.

Most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 qualify for tax exemption during the holiday, according to the Texas Comptroller’s website.

According to the Texas Comptroller’s website, “the exemption applies to each eligible item sold for less than $100, and there is no limit to the number of qualifying items you can buy.”

The exemption also applies to online orders. However, delivery charges are included in the total price, according to the website.

“For example, you buy a pair of jeans for $95 with a $10 delivery charge for a total price of $105. Because the jeans’ total price is more than $100, tax is due on the entire $105 purchase,” the website said.

Online orders must be paid before 11:59 p.m. on August 10 and shipped to a Texas address. Purchases made before midnight on August 8 or after 11:59 p.m. Sunday will be taxable.

Layaways can also be taxfree if the final payment for the layaway is paid or the transaction is started during the holiday weekend.
