Area schools received their grades from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as annual school accountability ratings were released for the 2024-2025 academic year this month.
The accountability ratings grade the 1,207 districts and nearly 9,000 schools across the state from A to F.
Maud and Red Lick independent school districts were the only area schools to receive an overall A rating, both raising from a B the previous year. Maud increased their score by 5 points from an 89 to 94 this year. Red Lick improved from an 87 to a 91.
They are among 169 Texas districts to earn an A rating.
DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston, Redwater, Simms and Malta ISDs all earned a B rating. Hubbard received a C and Leary a D rating.
According to the TEA website, the accountability system looks at three areas: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.
Student achievement is based on the performance of all students across all subjects areas; college, career and military readiness; and graduation rates.
School progress measures academic growth of students in STAAR results in reading/language arts and mathematics as well as student achievement in comparison to campuses with relatively similar economically disadvantaged percentages.
Closing the gaps measures short and long-term goals in academic achievement, growth or graduation rates, English language proficiency and school quality and student success in areas such as racial and ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds.
