Locations in Bowie and Titus counties will soon receive new dynamic message signs, according to plans awarded in July by the Texas Department of Transportation. Locations will also receive new closed-circuit television cameras.
“Dynamic message signs are overhead, electronic signs that TxDOT can use to display up-todate traffic information and safety messages to drivers,” said Christina Trowler, TxDOT Atlanta District Director of Transportation Operations. “These signs can display alerts, warnings, weather advisories and alternative route information, if needed.”
TxDOT places CCTV cameras at strategic locations to allow the agency to monitor traffic conditions in real time. CCTV cameras do not record.
New locations to receive equipment include: I-30 eastbound at FM 561 in Bowie County, dynamic message sign and CCTV I-30 westbound at FM 1001 in Titus County, dynamic message sign Existing locations to receive upgrades (includes new cameras and new poles for mounting): I-30 westbound at CR 2003 in Bowie County, dynamic message sign and CCTV I-30 eastbound at CR 2003 in Bowie County, dynamic message sign I-30 eastbound at Franklin County line in Titus County, dynamic message sign and CCTV Light It Up Electric of Adkins, Texas, was awarded the contract with a bid of $828,166. Work is expected to begin in October and take about seven months to complete, weather permitting. The estimated completion date is subject to change due to weather and/ or other unforeseen circumstances.
