A new soda shop in New Boston started as an idea and grew into a business that brings back nostalgia and offers a little something for everyone.
“The idea just kind of came about. I wanted to do something in town that nobody else does. Let’s do something that we can have people come in, events for adults, events for kids,” said Deana Kelley. “I prayed on it a little bit then one day I just said, ‘Okay, I’m doing it.’” Kelley is the owner of Dirty Girl Sodas in downtown New Boston. They opened their doors on Labor Day weekend.
The name, she said, plays up on their signature drink while honoring a woman owned and operated business.
“It fits our personalities,” Kelley said of herself, daughter Alanda Parsons, and “bonus daughter” Christina Schooley. “We’re not uptight. We’re easy-go, rock on, let’s do it, whatever … That’s the kind of vibe we want.”
The drink menu runs the gamut from dirty sodas and dirty energy drinks to lemonades and whipped coffees. And for those with an extra sweet-tooth, they have homemade desserts made personally by Kelley.
Kelley said they started making dirty sodas, a soda creation with flavors and cream, at home and their recipe ideas expanded through TikToks and Face-Book video reels.
“I kept seeing videos and was like, ‘Man, that looks good. I wish we had something like that around here,” Kelley said. “I feel so weird that the little things like that make me happy and to just make somebody feel like a kid again. So if I can give somebody else that joy, I’m going to do whatever I can to do that.”
And if she doesn’t have it on the menu, she said she’s open to suggestions Kelley said she and the “dirty” girls have fun and exciting family-friendly things coming up in the near future at the shop.
“We want to do the craft and sip parties for adults, kid nights … a movie night. We’ve got a big, clean wall on the side of the building and a projector to do movie nights,” she said. “And then we’re going to do some Halloween events.”
A boo-basket exchange is planned for October 4.
They also have space in the front of the shop for small vendors to sell their homemade wares from jewelry, leather works, sourdough creations, jams and jellies. And the girls are now a vendor for Skinny Syrups to be able to make custom drinks at home.
The store is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
