The DeKalb Bears overcame a slow start and rolled to their third straight victory over the Paul Pewitt Brahmas here Friday night. The victory sends the Bears into next week’s district opener against Redwater with a full tank of momentum. DeKalb trailed 6-0 until the third quarter when they finally got their defense on track and put up two touchdowns in each of the last two periods to claim the victory.

DeKalb’s Junior High volleyball team took first place during Saturday’s tournament at James Bowie. The Lady Bears defeated the Avery Bulldogs 25-5, 25-18. Lauren Garrett was the top server for the winners with 20 points, while Alesha Owens served up two points for Avery.

Because of an anonymous donor’s $1 million gift to the Texarkana College Foundation, the Texarkana College Board of Trustees acted Monday to keep their tax rate at the same level it has been since 2011, sparing county taxpayers from a rate hike. Longtime Bowie County educator Anne Farris told the Tribune, “The TC Board and TC’s Leadership team are so appreciative of the generous gift of the anonymous donor and what it means to the citizens of Bowie County.”
