Wearing the brand of loyalty to Christ

Wearing the brand of loyalty to Christ

There are certain character traits that are a given if you call yourself a Christian. Basic things like honesty, faithfulness, being trustworthy, and of course those ten rules that He laid out for us to live by. There are others that seem to me like they should go along with the rest and be a part of the package.

I was talking to my dad the other day about loyalty. Loyalty seems to be a scarce commodity in our world today, especially in the workplace. We hear things like “they don’t care about us, why should we care about them” or “they don’t pay me enough to give 100 percent” and the ever popular “we are just a number to them.”

While some or all of those things may be true in some instances, as Christians, we are called to a higher standard. We are called out in the scriptures to give our all in whatever we do. We are encouraged to study ourselves to be good workmen, not necessarily for an employer, but to our Heavenly Father. We are told in His Word to be honest, be faithful and to be above reproach. It seems to me that it would be hard to pull those things off in any effort of our lives if we are giving it a halfway effort. Being loyal doesn’t always have to mean being loyal to a corporate structure, but more often, we should be loyal to the guidance that He gives us to live by.
